CURE FOR PAIN
Mark Sandman became a prominent fixture of the Boston music scene during the late-1980s and 90s. Frontman for the band Morphine, Sandman was known for his unique vocals, songwriting and two-string slide bass. By the mid-90s, Morphine had achieved critical success, including a Grammy nomination, and become the second act ever signed to DreamWorks Records.
Hailed by Stereogum as “one of the ten best indie rock documentaries of all-time,” Cure For Pain explores the ways in which the group’s story parallels that of Sandman’s tragic personal life. After losing two brothers, Sandman suffered a fatal heart attack on stage while performing in Palestrina, Italy, at the age of 46.
Cure For Pain played festivals such as IDFA, Full Frame and DOC NYC, and was acquired by Cintetic Media. The film is available for purchase on iTunes.
